Sirvards Klava
Conductor
Sigvards Klava (born in 1962, Riga) is one of Latvia's most distinguished conductors, a professor of conducting, and a producer. Since 1992, he has served as the music director of the Latvian Radio Choir.
Through Klava's dedicated leadership, the Latvian Radio Choir has gained international recognition for its unique sound, with each singer being celebrated as a creative individual.
He began his studies in the piano department of the Jazep Medin Music School, later graduating from the choral class at the Emils Darzins Music School (1982), and the choral conducting department at the Latvian Conservatory (1987) under Imants Kokars. He won the “Dmitri Shostakovich Young Conductors Competition” in Leningrad in 1985.
Klava is known for his exceptional managerial skills, creativity, and ability to organize complex projects. He is an endless source of ideas and constantly seeks new artistic directions.
He has cultivated strong creative partnerships with some of Latvia's most prominent contemporary composers, including Maija Einfelde, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Arturs Maskats, Kristaps Pētersons, Santa Ratniece, and Pēteris Vasks.
