Vitezslav Mikes

Musicologist
Vitezslav Mikes is an Assistant Professor in the Music Production Department at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno. Born in 1977, he studied musicology and the Lithuanian language at universities in Olomouc, Prague, and Vilnius. In 2012, he earned his doctorate from Charles University in Prague with a thesis titled Music and Text in the Works of Bronius Kutavičius and Sigitas Geda.
A Czech musicologist, writer, and music programmer, Mikes has been the programme director for the Filharmonie Brno and the Moravian Autumn Festival since 2012. He has written hundreds of articles, reviews, and program notes for Czech music magazines and orchestras, and has collaborated with Czech Radio Vltava. He maintains strong relationships with contemporary composers, regularly commissioning new works from figures such as Tigran Mansurian, Benjamin Yusupov, and Erkki-Sven Tüür.
In addition to his musicological work, Mikes also translates contemporary Lithuanian literature into Czech. In 2018, he was awarded the Cross of the Knight of the Order of Merits to Lithuania.
